V. DETECTING JAMS
A.

Detecting Jams in the Printer Unit

The printer unit is equipped with the following paper sensors to check the pres-
ence/absence of paper and to find out whether paper is moving normally inside it:
• Registration paper sensor (PS1)
• Pick-up assembly paper sensor (PS17)
• Separation sensor (PS5)
• Face-down tray delivery sensor (PS11)
• Transparency sensor 1/2 (PS1801/PS1802)
• Fixing delivery sensor (PS1903)
A jam is identified in relation to the presence/absence of paper at a specific sensor at
such times as programmed in the microprocessor (CPU) in advance.
When the microprocessor identifies a jam, it stops the ongoing printing operation and
communicates the fact to the printer board*
