Applying Postage - Basics

• You can only print an indicia (a meter stamp), do a date correction,
a postage correction, or a Statement of Mailing when the screen
displays an indicia in the upper right corner (see examples below).

• There must always be a weight of at least "1 g" displaying on the
screen before an indicia can display. For systems with scales, it
simply means putting the mail piece or parcel on the scale. For
systems without scales, it means bringing up a preset that in-
cludes a weight or entering a manual weight.
• There are two major Canada Post categories of mail that this
meter can process - Lettermail and Parcels.
Lettermail – Your machine supports the rates for Lettermail
pieces that adhere to Lettermail specifications and weigh between
1 gram and 500 grams. The rates for mail pieces falling outside of
these criteria are available through the optional parcel rate module
for the system. The postage for Lettermail items must be calcu-
lated using the internal rating feature of the machine.
Parcels – Your machine supports the rates for mail pieces
weighing over 500 grams through an optional Parcel rating mod-
ule. If the optional Parcel rating module has been purchased, the
parcel must be processed using the internal rating feature. If the
optional Parcel rating module has not been purchased, you must
know the correct postage before hand and manually enter the
postage using the keypad.
• To apply postage for large pieces and parcels that can't be run
through the machine, use the optional tape sheets (see Chapter
12, Supplies and Options for ordering tape sheets). Feed the
tape sheets into the ma chine the same way you would feed an
en ve lope. Apply the postage tape sheets on the mail piece or
parcel in the proper location (call your local post offi ce or visit the
Canada Post website at www.canadapost.ca for more detailed
specifi cs and requirements).
