3.4 Controlling the Output by Operating Mode

3.4.1 Types of Modes

The transfer charging output may be any of the following output modes, and the output is
varied to suit each mode. The switch-over among these is based on the combination of trans-
fer output mode signals from the DC controller PCB.
a. Image Transfer Bias
This bias is used to transfer toner from the photosensitive drum to paper, and is a positive
voltage.
b. Cleaning Bias
This bias is used to return toner sticking to the transfer charging roller to the photosensi-
tive drum, and applies a negative voltage.
During initial rotation after the Start key is pressed
During last rotation
During initial rotation after jam removal or error resetting
During execution of roller cleaning in user mode ('adjust/clean'; in this case, the pri-
mary charging roller is also cleaned)
c. Reference Bias
It is an application voltage used for the transfer charging roller resistance detection con-
trol (ATVC control) mechanism. For every 1,000 prints (cumulative) or when 'roller clean' is
executed in user mode ('adjust/clean'), the voltage is applied at time of last rotation.
d. Sheet-to-Sheet Interval Bias
This bias is used in a non-image area (between sheets) in continuous print mode; the bias
level is reduced to prevent adhesion of toner to the transfer charging roller.
E064
Indicates the presence of a high-voltage (primary charging, transfer charg-
ing, development) output fault.
