Symptom
The copy has dark specks or
spots.
The edge of the copy is dirty.

Possible Cause
The original glass is dirty.
The original pad or
document feed belt is dirty.
The original is very thin or
highly transparent.
The original is two-sided.
The original pad or
document feed belt is dirty.
You have selected a paper
size larger than the original.
(Zoom Ratio is set at full size
100%)
The original is not placed in
the correct direction. (Zoom
Ratio is set at full size
100%.)
The reduction ratio selected
is not in accord with the copy
paper size. (When doing
manual
reduction copying.)
Troubleshooting

Wipe the glass clean with a
soft dry cloth, see page 8-7.
Wipe the original pad or
document transport belt
clean with a soft cloth
dampened with mild
detergent, see page 8-7.
Place a blank sheet of paper
over the original,
see page 3-4.
The information on the back
side of a two-sided, thin
original may be slightly
reproduced on the copy.
Touch the [DENSITY] key
and set Background to
[AUTO] or Lighter, see page
3-24.
Wipe the original pad or
document transport belt
clean with a soft cloth
dampened with mild
detergent, see page 8-7.
Select the same copy paper
size as the original, see page
3-11.
Or, use the Auto Size mode
to enlarge the copy to the
appropriate size,

Select the paper tray that is
loaded in the same direction
