Chapter 6: Installing Summit Family Switches

Preparing the Cables

Three spade-type terminals are provided with the power supply. You need a crimping tool to attach the
terminals to the power and ground cables.
To prepare the cables:
1 On each wire, strip 0.25 inch of insulation from one end.
2 Insert the stripped wire end all the way into the barrel of the terminal
terminal securely to the wire.

Installing the Power Supply

To install a 450 W or 550 W DC power supply:
1 Attach an ESD-preventive wrist strap to your bare wrist and connect the metal end to an appropriate
ground point on the rack.
2 If you are installing the power supply in a Summit X670 series switch:
a Verify that the switch chassis has been grounded (see step
b Verify that the airflow direction for the power supply is the same as the airflow direction of the
installed fan modules in the switch.
3 If necessary, remove a blank panel from the back of the Summit X480 or X670 series switch
(Figure
194).
