8.3.1.1 Group Names
Enter a group name from 1 to 16 characters. The first character must be alphabetical (case
insensitive, [A-Z a-z]); numeric characters are not allowed as the first character.
The group name can only contain the following characters:
• alphanumeric A-z 0-9 (there is no unicode support)
• Spaces
• _ [underscores]
• . [periods]
• - [dashes]
Other limitations on group names are:
• All leading and trailing spaces are removed automatically.
• Multiple spaces within names are converted to a single space.
• Group names are case insensitive. The group name cannot be the same (no matter the
case) as an existing local group or domain group. For example, if there exists a domain
group with the name 'BOB', you cannot create a local group named 'bob'. If you enter a
group 'bob' but use 'BOB' when connecting via CIFS or FTP, it will use the account
settings used for 'bob'.
The group name cannot be EVERYONE nor be the same as an existing local or domain
group. Other reserved group names that are not allowed are:
• daemon
• disk
• ftp
• nobody
• lp
• root
• tty
• utm
