Standard TCP/IP Port Printing in Windows 2000 or
Windows XP
The following are the steps to print using the standard TCP/IP protocol in Windows 2000.
Step 1: Setting up TCP/IP on the computer
Step 2: Setting up TCP/IP on the printer
Step 3: Setting up the printer driver and the printer port on the computer
• When printing directly to a printer from a computer, on all Windows 2000 and Windows XP
perform the procedure in step 3.
• When printing through a computer functioning as a server, on all Windows 2000 and Windows XP
server computers perform the procedure in step 3, on all Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me,
Windows NT4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP client computers perform the procedure in step
4.
Step 4: Setting up the printer driver and the printer port on the client computer

First check that the TCP/IP protocol is installed on the computer.
