IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller: Installation Guide
The physical entity within a host, SAN Volume Controller, or disk
controller system that performs the data communication (transmitting and
receiving) over the fibre channel.
A collection of two or more disk drives that present the image of a single
disk drive to the system. In the event of a single device failure, the data
can be read or regenerated from the other disk drives in the array.
The ability of a system to continue to return data even if a component
fails.
See storage area network.
See Small Computer Systems Interface.
In the Internet suite of protocols, a network management protocol that is
used to monitor routers and attached networks. SNMP is an
application-layer protocol. Information on devices managed is defined and
stored in the application's Management Information Base (MIB).
A standard hardware interface that enables a variety of peripheral devices
to communicate with one another.
See Simple Network Management Protocol.
A network whose primary purpose is the transfer of data between
computer systems and storage elements and among storage elements. A
SAN consists of a communication infrastructure, which provides physical
connections, and a management layer, which organizes the connections,
storage elements, and computer systems so that data transfer is secure and
robust. (S)
An IBM pseudo device driver designed to support the multipath
configuration environments in IBM products.
A virtualization technique in which the physical storage in the form of
Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) is split into smaller chunks
of storage known as extents. These extents are then concatenated, using
various policies, to make virtual disks (VDisks). See also asymmetric
virtualization.
A device connected between a computer and its power source that protects
the computer against blackouts, brownouts, and power surges. The
