Preparing for Air Travel

Review "Caring for the Computer" in this chapter.

this chapter.
If you plan to use the computer on the plane, check with the
airline you are using. In-flight computer use is at the discretion
of the airline.
Hand carry the computer in the slipcase; do not check it with
your luggage.
You can send the computer and diskettes through an airport X-
ray device. (The X-ray device is the one, usually with a
conveyer belt, that examines your carry-ons.)
Compaq recommends that you do not expose
IMPORTANT:
the computer or diskettes to an airport walk-through magnetic
detector or to an airport hand-held magnetic detector (usually,
a wand).

Check the local customs regulations of the countries on
your itinerary.
Purchase a power cord approved for use in each of the
countries on your itinerary. (Voltage, frequency, and plug
configurations vary by country.) If you are traveling to Japan,
you will also need to purchase a 3-to-2-prong plug adapter. To
obtain these devices, refer to "Worldwide Telephone
Numbers" in Appendix A for your nearest authorized Compaq
dealer, reseller, or service provider.

Depending on your computer model and destination(s), you
may need to purchase additional equipment to connect your
modem in foreign countries. For information about using your
modem internationally, refer to Chapter 8, "Using a Modem."
