Adding an Optional PC Card Modem

You can add modem functionality to a computer model without an
integrated modem by using an optional modem PC Card.

Obtaining and Installing a Modem PC Card

To purchase a modem PC Card compatible with the computer,
refer to "Worldwide Telephone Numbers" in Appendix A for
the name of the nearest authorized Compaq dealer, reseller, or
service provider.
For information about inserting and connecting a modem
PC Card, refer to the documentation that comes with the card
and to Chapter 9, "Using PC Cards," in this Reference Guide.

Selecting Modem Software

Select the software to operate the PC Card modem according to
the operating system that you are using.
Software for Windows 95
If you are using Windows 95 or Windows 3.1, you can use
software, such as WinFax LITE or WinCom LITE, that may be
included with the PC Card to operate the modem.
To install the software, refer to the documentation that comes
with the PC Card.
To access the software from Windows 95, select it from the
menu at Start ÆPrograms.
For an explanation of how the software works, refer to the
documentation that comes with the PC Card and to the
application's online Help from within the software.
Software for Windows NT
If you are using Windows NT, you can use Trio Communications
software to operate the modem in a variety of applications
including faxing. This software is preinstalled on the computer.
To access Trio Communications from Windows NT, Click
Start ÆProgramsÆTrio Communications.
For information on using Trio Communications, access Trio
Communications and follow the onscreen instructions.
