The devices and procedures for connecting the modem in
destination countries depend on whether you are
Traveling to North America, Latin America,
or Hong Kong
or
Traveling to Europe or Asia Pacific (including Japan, but
excluding Hong Kong)
Traveling to North America, Latin America,
or Hong Kong
If the computer was purchased for use in North America, Latin
America, Japan, or Hong Kong, you can connect the modem to a
standard telephone wall jack, hotel data line, or office fax machine
or modem line anywhere within these regions without purchasing
additional equipment.
For information about connecting a modem within these regions
refer to "Connecting a Modem in North America, Latin America,
Japan, or Hong Kong" earlier in this chapter.
Traveling to Europe or Asia Pacific (including Japan,
but excluding Hong Kong)
If the computer was purchased for use in North America, Latin
America, Japan, or Hong Kong, you need the following to connect
the modem in Europe or Asia Pacific (including Japan, but
excluding Hong Kong):
An International Modem Adapter
The country-specific modem cable approved for use in each of
your destination countries
To purchase an International Modem Adapter, refer to
"Worldwide Telephone Numbers" in Appendix A for the
name of the nearest Compaq authorized dealer, reseller, or
service provider.
For information on obtaining country-specific modem cable(s) for
your itinerary, refer to "Using a Country-Specific Modem Cable"
in this chapter.
