CAUTION
■ This equipment must be connected to a known, reliable, earth ground at all
times during installation and service. Refer to the applicable codes for
details on how to establish a protective earth ground.
■ This equipment must be serviced by authorized service personnel only.

Determining ONT Enclosure Location

The ONT can be mounted outdoors or indoors. In either case, use the requirements below
when mounting the ONT:
■ Proper airflow in and around the equipment must be maintained at its final mounted
■ The unit should be mounted within very close proximity of the AC electrical power meter
■ The unit should be mounted away from down spouts, permanent water sprinklers, or
■ Consideration should be given to proper clearances for opening the ONT cover.
The height of the mounting can vary, however it is recommended that the enclosure be
installed at a vertical distance of approximately four feet (1.2 meters) from grade. This height
lends to ease of installation/repair. Naturally, this mounting is dependent on the height of the
customer provided inside wire and/or length or location of the buried fiber drop, which is
assumed to enter the ONT from the ground upwards.
The enclosure is mounted vertically. If at all possible, the enclosure should be surface
mounted on a flat surface.
!
WARNING
■ Ensure the ONT is grounded before making any other connections.
■ Before making any power connections to this equipment, verify the power
is off (fuse removed/breaker tripped).
■ The ONT needs to be powered by a UL Listed Power Supply (LPS) suitable
for the application with Output at LPS Levels.
■ The fiber locate wire or shield must not enter the NID. Insulate the exposed
conductor of the fiber locate wire and preferably terminate it at the ground
or outside the NID housing. Failure to do this can result in large surge
currents being induced into the ONT ground or large surge voltages arcing
to the ground connection or other wiring within the NID.
■ DO NOT use a NID housing other than the one listed in this document.
■ Never allow the ONT customer interfaces to be spliced to a primary station
protector or OSP wiring. Failure to do this can result in large surge currents
being driven into the ONT interfaces.
■ Avoid running customer interface wiring near and parallel to AC wiring or
the ground wiring as lightning surges can get coupled into the ONT
interfaces.

the enclosure to prevent excessive heat buildup and ultimate product failure.
