Checking the Engine-Oil Level
Service Interval: Before each use or daily
Note:
Check the oil when the engine is cold.
1.
Disengage the blade-control switch (PTO), move
the motion-control levers to the N
position, and engage the parking brake.
2.
Shut off the engine, remove the key, and wait
for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position.
3.
Check the engine-oil level

Start the engine, run it at idle for 5 minutes,
shut off the engine, wait for 3 minutes, and then
check the engine-oil level. If needed, add oil up
to the F
mark on the dipstick.

Important:
Be sure to keep the engine-oil
level between the upper and lower limits on
the oil gauge. Engine failure may occur as
a result.

Important:
Add the oil very slowly and
do not block the opening of the filler hole
(Figure 40). If you add oil too fast or block
the hole, the oil could back up and foul the
air intakes, causing engine damage.

Draining the Engine Oil
Service Interval: After the first 50 hours
Every 100 hours
1.
Start the engine and let it run for 5 minutes.
Note:
This warms the oil so it drains better.
2.
Park the machine on a level surface, disengage
the blade-control switch (PTO), move the
motion-control levers to the N
position, and engage the parking brake.
3.
Shut off the engine, remove the key, and wait
for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position.
