Connectivity

You can install the switch on a tabletop or into a standard 19-inch rack using the rack mounting
hardware.
The 1G694-13 has two power supplies. If one power supply fails, the remaining power supply
assumes the entire load of the device without interruption to network traffic. Each power supply
module has its own ac input connection and must be connected to different ac power circuits for
power source redundancy.
1.2
CONNECTIVITY
The switch has twelve, 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports and one 10-Gigabit Ethernet expansion port,
which is via an optional expansion module.
1-Gigabit Ethernet Ports
The 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports consist of
• eight fixed MT-RJ style ports that are 1000BASE-SX compliant, and
• four port slots that support optional hot-swappable Mini-GBICs.
As of the printing of this manual, there were three Mini-GBIC models available: two that comply
with standard 1000BASE-SX; one that complies with 1000BASE-LX.
10-Gigabit Ethernet Port
Caution: The expansion modules are NOT hot-swappable. The switch must be powered down
before the expansion modules are installed or removed. Hot-swapping the expansion modules
while the switch is powered on could cause the device to stop forwarding frames.
The 10-Gigabit Ethernet port is an expansion slot for a 10-Gigabit Ethernet expansion module.
Depending on the Ethernet expansion module installed, the uplink can be via different connectors
and media that support 10-Gigabit Ethernet operation.
Figure 1-2
shows the Ethernet expansion modules available at the time of this printing.
indicates which standard the modules comply with and the type of physical connections.
