10-Gigabit Ethernet Network

10-GIGABIT ETHERNET NETWORK
There is one optional 10-Gigabit interface port slot on the switch. Depending on the network
application (e.g., network type and cabling) an optional expansion module can support different
Ethernet connections.
As of the printing of this document, two models of 10-Gbps Ethernet expansion modules are
available: ZPIM1-01 and ZPIM1-06.
The ZPIM1-01 has a fixed single port 850 nm Coarse Wave Division Multiplex interface with an
SC connector, and can drive a signal to a maximum distance of 250 meters (820 feet) on a
multimode fiber optic cable.
The ZPIM1-06 has a port slot that can support various optional XENPAK 10-Gigabit Ethernet
(10 GbE) standard type fiber optic modules. Currently, only the 10GBASE-LR is available. This
uplink has one 10-nanometer single mode fiber optic interface with an SC connector, and can drive
a signal to a maximum distance of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) on a single mode fiber optic cable.
The device at the other end of the fiber optic connection must be an Enterasys Networks product
with a matching ZPIM1-01, or a standards compliant product with a 10GBASE-LR interface as
appropriate.
