Troubleshooting Installation Issues
4.2 Adding Hardware to an Existing System (Making Sure
the DX 80 Recognizes It)
SOLUTION: Follow the steps required when adding hardware to an existing system.
When you add any optional expansion/circuit modules (COM4, DPM8, APM4, In-Skin Voicemail, or
Modem) to either KSU1 or KSU2, you must follow certain procedures to ensure the DX-80 configures
itself properly with the newly added equipment. These procedures include performing a cold start/ini-
tialization. If your customer's DX-80 switch uses a customized database, be sure to take these mea-
sures first to back up that database. Note: If you program using the DET instead of PC-DBA, you
cannot save the custom database; you will have to re-program the custom settings after performing the
cold start. For further details on DX-80 programming options, see the DX-80 Technical Manual,
Volume II, Programming.
When adding new equipment, perform the following steps.
1. Connect and login to PC-DBA by pressing F5. From the main Database Programming screen
press F3 and Receive All.
2. After Receiving All, log out of PC-DBA by pressing F6.
3. Turn OFF the power supply to the DX-80 KSUs by moving the ON/OFF switch to the OFF
position.
4. Un-plug the DX-80 AC power cords on KSU1 and KSU2.
5. At this point, begin the cold start initialization. To do so, follow the procedure in Section 2.18,
Power-up Initialization (Cold Start).
When you have finished the cold start initialization, the default data will be loaded and ready
and the telephones will be functional. In this status, all CO lines will ring at extension 101, all
extensions may take and place calls, and all systems features are operational per the default con-
figuration.
6. If you are programming using the telephone, you will have to customize the database again
manually.
If you are programming using a laptop, log in to the PC-DBA. From the main Database Pro-
gramming screen press F4 to send and select All. The system reloads the custom database you
previously saved in step 1, writing over the default database created during the cold start.

4.3 Voice Mail Doesn't Work (No Legal Member)

SOLUTION: Follow the steps required when initializing the system.
The No Legal Member error indicates that the DX-80 has not been properly initialized. You must
properly initialize the system when you first install it, and every time you add a piece of hardware to
the system (a new board, etc.).
If you do not have an existing database, perform a cold start initialization. Follow the detailed pro-
cedure in Section 2.18, Power-up Initialization (Cold Start).
If you have an existing database, and you have PC-DBA loaded onto a laptop, you can:
• save the customized database
