Software Upload via FTP

INDeX 30
This method uses FTP over the ethernet port and access to the Maintenance menu
either with either Telnet (over the ethernet port) or Kermit/HyperTeminal over the
serial port. Ensure that the network has been set up correctly (see "Setting the
INDeX IP Network Settings" on page 24).
This process allows for remote uploading of INDeX software whilst the INDeX is
running. Note however that the system must be restarted, which will stop all calls in
progress, to use the new software.
There are two methods available for uploading the software via FTP:
-
preferred method is by using the Administration menu whilst the system is
running
-
alternatively, if necessary, by using the Monitor Loader.
Using the Administration Menu
1. Access the switch and log on using either Telnet (see page 25) or the serial port
(see page 20).
2. From the Administration menu select Maintenance.
3. Start your command line FTP program.
a. In Windows 95, 98 and NT, select Start | Run and enter ftp.
b. Enter open n where n is the IP address of the INDeX.
c. When requested enter your username.
d. When requested enter your password.
e. Enter bin to ensure that FTP file transfers use binary mode.
f. Enter hash if you want a visual indication of the transfer of data packets.
g. Enter send fn PA where fn is the file path of the software file to send.
h. Enter close to end the FTP connection.
i. With Windows FTP, enter quit to close the FTP window.
4. Return to the Maintenance menu. The Release upload buffer option should
display PA Software Upload. Whilst this message is displayed the system is
uploading the flash memory.
5. Wait for this message to disappear before proceeding.
6. From the Administration menu, select Channel Information and select
System Shutdown.
7. When shut down, from the Maintenance menu, select System Restart and
press N
8. "Cold System Restart" appears. Press Y and wait for the "System Restart"
message (which will show the time and date of the restart).
9. Press ↵ and log on again.
10. You can now program the new INDeX software features.
