Connecting Rod and Crankpin
Install a connecting rod (with bearing) on the
crankshaft as shown. Use a thickness gauge to
measure the connecting rod large bore side clear-
ance.
If the measurement exceeds the service limit,
replace the connecting rod and/or the crankshaft.
Connecting Rod Large Bore Side Clearance
0.0039 to 0.0098 in.
Standard
(0.100 to 0.0250 mm)
Service Limit 0.0138 in. (0.350 mm)

3. Thickness gauge
Inspect the crankpins for wear and damage.
Measure the width of the crankpins.
Use a micrometer to measure the crankpins for
out-of-round and taper.
PISTON, CYLINDER, AND CRANKSHAFT
If any crankpin is worn or damaged, or the out-of-
round or taper exceeds the service limit, replace
the crankshaft.

Use dial calipers to measure the connecting rod
large bore inside diameter.
