If the number of characters actually input is greater than the number of input
characters set for the character string input field, the excess characters are ig-
nored.
If the number of characters actually input is less than the number of input charac-
ters set for the character string input field, the character string is input at the cur-
sor position, and the characters that were to the right of the cursor position are
shifted to the right. Therefore, when a character string with fewer than the set
number of characters is input, characters that were displayed previously will be
displayed following this character string. To make these characters blanks, ei-
ther fill the surplus part with blanks, or use touch switches with the control code
input function (BS, DEL, etc.) to delete the surplus characters before confirma-
tion.
Interlock Function
A character string input can be controlled (enabled/disabled) from the PC by set-
ting the interlock function for the character string input and allocating an interlock
bit in a PC data area. The status of the allocated interlock bit is read and its status
determines whether the input is enabled or disabled.
The following table shows how the PT operates when the interlock function is
used or not used.

Not used
The PT continuously reads the status of the corresponding interlock bit while a
character string input field that uses the interlock function is being displayed on
the screen. if the interlock bit's status changes, the character string input field is
disabled or enabled according to the interlock bit's status.
Reference: If the touch switch input sound has been turned OFF with the PT's memory
switch setting, the buzzer won't sound when you attempt to input a character
string in an interlocked input field.

Character strings can be input only while the interlock bit is ON.
If you attempt to input a character string while the interlock bit is OFF,
the buzzer will sound and the input field will not change.
When an input is made from a temporary input field to an interlocked
character string input while the interlock bit is OFF, the buzzer will
sound when the character string in the temporary input field is
confirmed and the destination character string input field will not
change.
When an input is made from a bar code reader to an interlocked
character string input while the interlock bit is OFF, the character
string that was read will not appear in the input field and the buzzer
will sound whether manual confirmation or automatic confirmation is
being used. The destination character string input field will not change.
Character strings can be input and confirmed at any time.
