Use in hazardous areas
Hazardous areas are classified into zones. The zones are distinguished according to the
probability of the existence of an explosive atmosphere.
Open equipment
The CFU is open equipment. This means that it may only be installed in enclosures, cabinets
or in electrical equipment rooms. These may only be accessible via keys or a tool. The
enclosures, cabinets or electrical equipment rooms may only be accessed by instructed or
approved personnel.

Use in hazardous area of zone 2 /22
● The CFU PA can be used as a bus node in device category 3G in the hazardous area of

Only intrinsically safe electrical field devices of device category 3G and 3D for zones 2 and
22 may be connected to the spur lines FB0 to FB7.

● SIMATIC CFU PA bundle with aluminum enclosure
● PROFINET cables to the CFU
● The cables to PROFIBUS PA field devices, sensors and actuators
