REMOVAL
(1) Pull down coat hook.
(2) Remove screw holding assist handle to roof
from behind coat hook.
(3) Pull and hold assist handle down.
(4) Remove front screw attaching assist handle to
roof (Fig. 89).
(5) Remove assist handle from roof.
(6) Disengage clips attaching reading lamp socket
to back of assist handle base.
(7) Disconnect reading lamp switch from slot on
back of assist handle base.
(8) Separate assist handle from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
(1) Place assist handle in position on vehicle.
(2) Connect reading lamp switch into slot on back
of assist handle base.
(3) Engage clips to attach reading lamp socket to
back of assist handle base.
(4) Place assist handle in position on roof.
(5) Pull and hold assist handle down.
(6) Install front screw to attach assist handle to
roof.
(7) Install screw behind coat hook to attach assist
handle to roof.

HEADLINER
NOTE: The first time the headliner is removed, it is
necessary to pull on the headliner until the four
glue bonds break free from the structural mem-
brane (21 x 25 cardboard). The membrane is to stay
as a permanently bonded member to the roof panel.
DO NOT apply any glue to the headliner on instal-
lation; it is not necessary.
REMOVAL
(1) Remove front passenger seat for ease of
removal of headliner.
(2) Remove right and left A-pillar trim panels.
(3) Remove right and left sun visors and retainers.
(4) Remove overhead console or front interior
lights.
(5) Disconnect wire harness along A-pillar and
wire connector to the fuse panel.
(6) Remove upper B-pillar trim panels.
(7) Remove front and rear assist handles.
(8) Remove quarter trim upper panels partial,
keeping belt attached.
(9) Fully recline seat.
(10) Disengage rear headliner locating clip, using
Headliner Clip Pliers, Special Tool C-6967.
(11) Pull headliner down, beginning from the rear.
Four corner glue bond of structural membrane to
back of headliner must be overcome.
