Note on display block 4:
There are only two positions for the variable camshaft, the
normal position and the switched position. In order to acti-
vate the switched position of the camshaft, the car should
be accelerated in second gear when driving slowly (about
1000 rpm) with the accelerator pedal depressed. If the
actuation of the camshaft adjustment is active - see dis-
play block 3 - it is possible to detect in display block 4
whether an adjustment of the camshaft has in fact taken
place (feedback). If the adjustment is not active, check
whether full throttle is detected (the camshaft adjustment
is only active at full throttle!).

Notes on display blocks 3 and 4:
There are only two positions for the variable camshaft,

to activate the switched position of the camshaft, the
car should be accelerated in first gear from a standing
start.
Display block 4 shows the actual position of the vari-
able camshaft. If the actuation of the camshaft adjust-
ment is active - see display block 3 - it is possible to
detect in display block 4 whether an adjustment of the
camshaft has in fact taken place (feedback).
- Camshaft in normal position = -3.0...+3.0° CRA
- Camshaft in switched position = 15.0...22.0° CRA

If a readout between 4.0° CRA and 14.0° CRA appears
in display block 4 during the road test, the camshaft
adjustment solenoid valve switches the oil pressure
correctly to the mechanical camshaft adjuster but the
adjuster is not able to reach its end position (e.g. be-
cause it is stiff).
