Purpose
This chapter describes M3900 firmware and software requirements, as
well as the firmware download process.

The M3900 series Release 3 telephones are backwards compatible to
MSL11 (XPM 13) for Commercial and to MSL12 for Federal Software
Loads; however, some new feature capabilities are not available until the
MSL15 time frame and some require certain XPM releases. Beginning with
MSL17 or MSL15 with XPM17, the M3900 series digital telephones must
be upgraded to the Release 3 firmware.
The Enhanced Intelligent Peripheral Equipment (EIPEs) should be on
the minimum versions that
