Chapter 2 Preparations

1.22.3 Replacing a Failing Power Supply Unit

Replace only when the power supply unit fails.
1.
Locate the failing power supply unit by the AC POWER LED on the rear of each power supply unit. (The
LED of the failing power supply unit is lit amber or blinking amber.)
2.
Shutdown the system, and press the POWER switch on the server to turn off the power.
3.
Disconnect the AC power cord from the failed power supply unit.
4.
Push the lever of the failing power supply unit toward inside, and pull the power supply unit while
holding the handle.Remove the power supply unit from the chassis.
5.
If operating the server with a single power supply unit without installing a new one, install the blank
cover you removed in step 2 of installation procedure.
6.
Install the new power supply unit taking steps 3 to 7 of "Installation", and confirm that the power supply
unit is installed normally.
Be sure to observe the following precautions to use the server safely. Failure to
observe the precautions may cause burns, injury, and property damage. For
details, refer to Safety precautions in Precautions for Use.
• Pay attention to electric hazard.
Important
Do not remove a power supply unit operating normally.
Tips
In the redundant power configuration (with two power supply units) and if either one of
power supply units fails, the failing power supply unit can be replaced with the system
power on. (Skip steps 1 and 2 below).
Important
To maintain the cooling effect in the server, install the blank cover in the vacant
slot.
