Using the Dual-Position Trigger

The PDT 7200 has a dual-position scan trigger, which serves two functions. These
functions are programmable and may be changed for your application. The two positions
of the trigger are activated as follows:
The first trigger position is accessed by pulling the trigger to the first click. Use this,
for example, as an aiming function or to activate the keypad.
The second position is accessed by pulling the trigger the remaining distance to the
handle. This activates the scanner.

Using the Scanner

1. Verify that the terminal is on (the display is active).
2. Ensure that a scanning-capable application is loaded and prepared to allow
scanning.
3. Point the scanner at the bar code and pull the trigger to the handle.
4. Ensure that the scan beam crosses all bars and spaces on the symbol, as shown:
Wrong
Optimal scanning distance varies with bar code density and scanner optics, but
most combinations work within 4 to 10 inches. Generally:
Hold the scanner farther away for larger symbols.
Move the scanner closer for symbols with bars that are close together.
5. If the decode is successful, the LED turns from yellow to green. The terminal may
also beep.
Note: The procedure for your scanner may differ from the one listed above.
Scanner operation depends on the application.

Scanning Considerations

Usually, scanning is a simple matter of aim, scan, and decode, and a few quick trial efforts
master it. However, two important considerations can optimize any scanning technique —
range and angle.
