Direct Q
• The Direct queue is
different from the other
YES (default)
queues in that it has no
NO
job storage
capabilities.
• When the Direct queue
is enabled it receives
jobs that network users
submit to it.
• When the Direct queue
has a job, it receives
and prints the job
either immediately, or
if the printer is busy it
receives and prints the
job as soon as the
printer finishes the
currently-printing job.
• Until the Direct queue
is ready to receive and
print a job, the job
remains at the sending
server, workstation,
PC, or Macintosh.
• You must enable either
Print or Direct or both.

• YES allows network
users to put jobs in the

Hold queue.
NO
• Jobs in this queue can
only be printed or
thrown away by using
the Spooler utility to
move them to the Print
queue or delete them.

Windows NT
Setting Enable Direct to
YES allows you to attach
the NT server to the Direct
queue using AppleTalk or
TCP/IP.
The Direct queue must be
enabled for network users
to download fonts to the
printer using the

TCP/IP
When the Direct queue is
enabled and the printer
has a valid TCP/IP
address, TCP/IP users can
send jobs to it using the
queue named
ibmcolor_direct.
Windows NT
• When AppleTalk or
TCP/IP and the Hold
queue are enabled, NT
workstations can print
directly to the Hold
queue.
• Using the Downloader
utility, NT clients can
download PostScript
jobs to the Hold queue.
TCP/IP
When the Hold queue is
enabled and the printer

ibmcolor_hold.
