MAINTENANCE
Brakes
WARNING
• Do not operate the front brake while its reservoir cover is removed. Fluid could overflow from
the reservoir and cause air to enter the fluid system. Air in the brake fluid system could cause
the brakes to malfunction.
• Use only DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed, clean container. Using the wrong brake fluid, or
allowing contaminants into the brake fluid system, can damage the system seals, resulting in the
brakes malfunctioning.
5. Carefully add enough brake fluid to bring the level just above the sight glass.
6. Reinstall the reservoir gasket and cover.

Check Rear Brake Pedal Freeplay and Movement

Rear brake pedal freeplay is the amount of brake pedal movement from the rest position to the point of the actuator
rod contacting the master cylinder piston. Freeplay should be .177 - .280 inch (4.5-7.0 mm). Adjust pedal freeplay
as necessary (see page 111).
Press and release the rear brake pedal. It should move freely and smoothly and should return to its rest position
quickly when you release it. You should feel a firm resistance in the pedal within the first 3/8 inch (8 mm) of pedal
travel.
If the brake pedal travels too far before beginning to engage the brake, see the VICTORY Service Manual, or contact
an authorized VICTORY dealer for service.
