3–Preparation

Powering the unit

This unit can be powered by two AA batteries, USB bus power
or a TASCAM PS-P520 AC adaptor (sold separately).
This unit can use either alkaline or nickel-metal hydride
(NiMH) batteries.

Using AA batteries

As described in the "Inserting and removing SD cards" section
above, this unit has a battery compartment in the bottom.
Insert 2 AA batteries into this compartment, aligning them
correctly with the plus/minus indications inside, and then
close the compartment cover.

When using AA batteries, set the type of battery in order
to allow the unit to accurately show the amount of power
remaining and determine whether enough power is available
for proper operation. (See "Setting the battery type" on page
80.)
CAUTION
Manganese batteries cannot be used with this unit.
This unit cannot recharge Ni-MH batteries. Use a commer-
cially-available recharger.
The included alkaline batteries are provided for confirming
the operation of the unit and might not last very long.

Using USB bus power

Connect the unit with a computer using the included USB
cable as shown in the illustration below.
