Parallel cable
A data cable which transfers multiple bits of information
simultaneously along each of its wires from the computer to the
printer.
Parallel interface
This term is used to describe the connection between a computer
and a peripheral device such as a printer. Through this type of
connection, the synchronized transfer of multi-bit data is enabled
via multiple wires over a limited distance. The Centronics interface
is a typical example of a parallel interface.
PCL5C printer software
The program that enables a computer to send a print job in PCL5C.
Port
A connection through which the computer sends information to
other devices. Parallel ports send data eight bits at a time and are
usually used for printers; Windows and MS-DOS designates them
"LPT1:" through "LPT9:". Windows Printing System does not
allow printing through serial ports, which send data one bit at a
time and are often used for modems.
PostScript printer software
The program that enables a computer to send a print job in
PostScript.
Power Save
This is a setting which is used to conserve energy by enabling the
printer to operate in a "power save mode" during a specified
period.
Printable area
The area of the page in which the printer is able to print. Page
printers have a nonprint margin typically about 0.2 inch (5 mm)
wide on each edge of the paper. The printable area is the space
within these margins. See also Margin.
