35. Q:
I can't get VoiceMail remote access to work. What am I doing wrong?
A:
Make sure you are using a touch-tone phone. Some touch-tone phones take longer to
register the digits you're keying-in. When you're dialling your remote access code, press
the number keys firmly, taking a second for each digit. Note you must enter the whole
code before your outgoing message has finished. Therefore, as soon as you hear your
outgoing message start, type in your code while the message is still playing. Bear in mind,
if you recorded an extremely short outgoing message, there may not be enough time for
you to enter your code.
36. Q:
What does the orange light on the button below the screen mean?
A:
The orange light invites you to press the button to respond to the advert displayed.
37. Q:
Why am I receiving adverts on the screen?
A:
The e-m@iler has been heavily subsidised by Amstrad. If it were not subsidised, its retail
price would be around £300. Amstrad therefore has to use advertising to help recoup the
subsidy.
38. Q:
Does it cost me money to receive adverts?
A:
No, the advertiser incurs this cost. (Note that adverts are collected on a freephone 0800
series number.)
39. Q:
Can I opt out of receiving adverts?
A:
No, they are a condition of the subsidy (as advised on the outer carton and on the label
that sealed the user instructions book wrapper). Note if you wish to delete an advert, you
can do so while it's on-screen by pressing DELETE (on the e-m@iler) or !DEL on the
keyboard.
40. Q:
The display is showing
none of the e-m@iler functions work. What does this mean?
A:
The e-m@iler has detected a problem which has prevented it from making email calls for
a number of days (eg. it is not connected to a suitable telephone line or exchange). Make
sure all telephone connections and settings are OK, then hold down the EMAIL button
(for approx 5 seconds) until
41. Q:
My telephone bill is showing 'multi-media' and 'special-services' calls to various
Premium Rate numbers – what are these calls?
A:
The various 090xx Premium Rate numbers are used by the e-m@iler for video call
payment, email, text, surfing, games, ringtones and services-response calls.
