Questions & Answers
If you are experiencing problems with your e-m@iler, we have provided a list of
common questions and answers. If this doesn't help you, you can contact
Amserve Support (see page 29).
1.
Q:
Will the e-m@iler work overseas?
A:
No, it has been designed for the UK market and telephone system. However, the
e-m@iler can be used to send and receive messages to and from anywhere in the world.
2.
Q:
Does my telephone service provider have to be BT?
A:
No, the e-m@iler will also work with Cable and other telecom networks.
3.
Q:
Will I automatically get Caller Display?
A:
No, Caller Display is an optional service to which you subscribe. (For most service
providers you can subscribe by dialling 150.) This service can be added or taken away
whenever you choose.
4.
Q:
Where can I buy e-m@iler accessories?
Check out the SERVICES menu – look under
A:
5.
Q:
I can't seem to make a video call - why?
A:
Check that the person you're calling has a videophone. Note that the other person must
accept your request for a video connection, otherwise it will not take place. (If you have
very poor telephone line quality, video calls may not be possible.)
6.
Q:
Why are picture and sound quality during video calls not the same as my TV's?
A:
Current videophone technology provides only limited picture and sound quality –
videophone images will be slow and jerky. This is not a fault of the product – it is the
maximum that the current generation of videophones will afford. However, to get the best
possible picture quality, make sure the room is well lit and do not position the e-m@iler
with its screen directly facing a sunlit window.
7.
Q:
Who pays for a video call?
A:
The normal call charge is incurred by the caller as usual. However, there is an additional
video charge which is incurred by the person who initiates the video connection – even if
that person didn't make the original call. (The video charge is displayed on the screen
before you initiate the video connection.)
8.
Q:
I can't make or receive video calls – the display is showing
SERVICE IS
DISABLED. Why has this happened?
A:
The e-m@iler has been prevented from making payments on previous video calls. Make
sure the e-m@iler remains powered on and connected to a suitable telephone line at all
times.
