About This Manual

This manual describes the HP Cluster Platform solutions based on a gigabit Ethernet interconnect.
It also describes the HP ProCurve interconnects used in these solutions. The manual references
the original interconnect documentation for detailed information, except where information or
procedures for the cluster differ from the standalone components. In these cases, this
documentation supersedes information supplied in existing component documentation.
This manual does not describe the Myricom Myrinet-2000 gigabit Ethernet interconnect. For
more information about the Myricom interconnects, refer to the HP Cluster Platform Myrinet
System Interconnect Guide. This manual does not describe the procedures and tools that are required
to install and configure the system hardware or software. It does contain references for cluster
components that have their own documentation.

Audience

This manual is intended for experienced hardware system administrators. Some sections will be
helpful to end users who need to determine site requirements before installation.
The information in this manual assumes that the end user:
• Is familiar with rack-mounted servers and associated rack hardware
• Is familiar with basic networking concepts, network switch technology, and network cables
• Is familiar with HP cluster architecture and concepts
