Error Messages
If a printer problem occurs, the Operator Panel will display
an error message. The standard error messages listed below
require that you take the specific action displayed in the LCD
panel before normal printer operations can continue.
Error Message
Explanation
Toner Cartridge needs to be replaced
TONER LOW
soon.
INVALID
The wrong toner cartridge has been
placed in the printer. Replace with an
CARTRIDGE
NEC SuperScript 1800 Toner
Cartridge.
Amber light is on steady. Top Cover
CLOSE
and/or Back Cover needs to be closed
COVERS
before printing can continue.
This message will also be displayed if
the Toner Cartridge is not installed,
even if the covers are closed.
JAM
A paper jam has occurred at the (L)
area. (L)= TRAY, TOP, BACK.
(L)

A paper jam has occurred at the (L)
area. (L)= TRAY, TOP, BACK.
DPX-(L)
Tray indicated by "N"(1, 2, 3) is empty
TRAY(N)
and needs to be refilled with paper size
EMPT (P)
specified by "P"*.
Green light is on. Tray 2 or 3 is open.
READY
(N) indicates tray number. Close tray.
CLOSE T(N)
INSERT
Tray 2 or 3 has been removed and must
be inserted before printing can
TRAY (N)
continue. Amber light is on steady.
Insert tray, (N) indicates tray number.
TRAY(N)
Tray indicated must be re-loaded with
user-specified paper which is different
LOAD (P)
from the paper currently in tray.

Tray is empty and must be refilled
with the specified paper. (P) is
EMPT (P)

MANUAL
Amber light is blinking. User must
load the specified paper in
FEED (P)
Multipurpose Tray in order for print
job to continue. (P) is specified paper.
OUTPUT
The Output Tray is full and the paper
must be removed from the tray.
BIN FULL
INSUFFIC
Printer received more data than can fit
in its available memory.
MEMORY
PAGE TOO
Data sent to the printer is too complex.
Printer will automatically try to re-
COMPLEX
render the data only one time.
SERIAL
Printer encountered an error while
transferring data from the computer
ERROR
through its serial interface.
*When paper source is set to AUTO and another tray has
paper, the amber LED is blinking. When paper source is set to
AUTO and all trays are empty, the amber LED is on.
