D Weather alert function
NOAA broadcast stations transmit weather alert tones before
important weather announcements. When the weather alert
function is turned ON, the selected weather channel is moni-
tored every 5 sec. for the announcement. When the alert sig-
nal is detected, the "ALT" and the WX channel indications are
displayed alternately and a beep sounds until the transceiver
is operated. The previously selected (used) weather channel
is checked periodically during standby or while scanning.
q Select the desired weather channel.
w Enter "WX-ALT" in SCAN set mode.

e Push [ ](2) or [ ](8) to select "ON" or "OFF."
r Push [ ](5) (or [ ](4)) to return to SCAN set mode, and
push [MENU
] to return to the weather channel indica-
tion.
t Set the desired stand-by condition.
• Select VFO, memory or call channel.
• Scan or priority watch operation can also be selected.
y When the alert is detected, a beep sounds and the follow-
ing indication is displayed.
Shows above indications alternately.
u Turn the weather alert function OFF in Scan menu.
NOTE: While receiving a signal on a frequency other than
the Weather alert frequency, the receiving signal will be
](5).)
interrupted momentarily approximately every 5 sec. when
the Whether alert function is ON. These interruptions
cease when the Weather alert function is turned OFF.
