5. If the green power supply LED is not on, recheck the power cord seating, the
power switch, and the wall outlet. If these are all correct, replace the chassis.
See "Replacing the chassis with touchpad" on page 50. Replacing the chassis is
a disruptive process. All switch service is lost during the replacement process. A
dual power machine can continue to function on one power supply. Before
replacing the chassis, schedule this replacement at a time when it is convenient
to the customer.
All ports fail to communicate action (action 3)
This service action is the result of a complete switch failure (no data can be passed
through the switch).
1. Observe the front of the switch.
If this switch has only one power supply, verify that the green LED on the
power supply is on. If the green power supply LED is on, go to step 8. If not,
continue with the next step:
Note: It is extremely unlikely that both power supplies would fail on a
dual-power machine.
2. Check that the power supply is seated correctly in the switch chassis.
a. Grasp the handle on the front of the power supply; pull down and out. The
power supply should unseat.
b. Reseat the power supply and relock the handle by restoring it to an upright
and locked position.
3. Check that the power cord is fully seated.
4. Check that there is power in the wall outlet.
5. Check that the power switch is in the on position.
6. If the green LED is now on, turn the power switch off. Wait 15 seconds and
turn the power switch on. If the green power supply LED is again on, go to
step 8.
7. If the green LED is not on, replace the power supply. See "Replacing the
power supply" on page 45. When the power supply is replaced and the power
switch is turned on, verify that the ready LED is on (wait 2 minutes for this
check). If the ready LED is on, return the machine to the customer. If the
switch LED or ready LED is not on, go to step 9.
Note: It is extremely unlikely that both power supplies would fail on a
dual-power switch. However, if this is a dual-power switch, repeat step 1
through step 7 for each power supply.
8. Observe the ready LED. If the LED is off or flashing, go to step 9. If the LED is
on (steady green), go to "Some ports fail to communicate action (action 4)" on
page 38.
9. If the power supply LED is on and the ready LED is off or flashing, a system
board failure has occurred. The system board must be replaced. Remove all
GBICs and cables, marking them so that they can be returned to the same
positions. After marking all GBICs and cables, see "Replacing the system
board assembly" on page 49. Replacing the system board disrupts the switch
operation. Ensure that all traffic on the switch is paused. If this is an 8-port
machine and is rack mounted, slide the switch forward out of the rack to
access the system board.
10. After replacing the system board, turn the switch on. If this is a dual-power
machine, turn on both power supplies. After waiting two minutes while POST
runs, verify that the ready LED is on and then return the machine to the
