configuration file
A generic name that refers to copy group definition files, disk configuration definition files,
command device definition files, route list definition files, and path set definition files.
consistency group
(C/T group) When updating volumes in the group, this preserves consistency in the update
sequence.
consistency time
(C/T Time) The time indicated by the P-VOL I/O timestamp written to the S-VOL. If consistency is
preserved, it assures that the data statuses of the P-VOL and S-VOL match at a consistency time.
copy direction
Flow of the data for matching the S-VOL data with the P-VOL data. In normal operation, data
always flows from a P-VOL to an S-VOL. When a failure occurs or when a return is made, data
may flow from an S-VOL to a P-VOL.
copy group
A group of the several pair volumes that the user uses for the same operation
copy group
A set of multiple consistency groups with the same copy type. The whole copy group container
container
can be manipulated collectively.
copy group
When URs are in a 4x4 configuration, consistency can be preserved between volumes in a copy
container with
group container with multiple disk controllers by assigning an EXCTG ID to the copy group
EXCTG ID specified
container. This will register the copy group container as an EXCTG on the disk controllers.
copy pair
A designated relationship between a primary volume (P-VOL) and a secondary volume (S-VOL)
in Business Continuity Manager.
copy pair matching
Rate at which pair P-VOL data matches pair S-VOL data
rate
copy pair status
The status of a P-VOL and an S-VOL copy pair, for example SIMPLEX, DUPLEX, SUSPOP, or
PENDING
copy pair structure
Combination of a P-VOL (primary device) and an S-VOL (secondary device), and their connection
configuration
CSA
common service area
CSB
channel status byte
CU
controller unit
D
DAD
Device address domain. Indicates sites that adopt the same device numbering system. If several
hosts on the same site have the same device numbering system, they have the same name.
DASD
direct access storage device
DBCS
double byte character set
Delta Resync
A method used in a 3DC Multi-Target configuration to synchronize a predefined delta resync
pair (a UR pair consisting of a local site volume and a remote site volume) by copying only the
differences between the volumes in the pair.
Delta Resync pair
A UR copy pair for performing Delta Resync. This copy pair is either in HOLD, HOLDTRNS,
HOLDER, or NODELTA status.
device address
A unique number assigned to each device in the LCU. When combined with the LCU number,
provides a unique identifier for a volume in the storage system. Also known as the unit number
or unit address.
device address
(DAD ID) An identifier for a Device Address Domain in Business Continuity Manager.
domain ID
DEVN
A device number used by a mainframe host to manage storage volumes
difference
A unit for managing differential data between a P-VOL and S-VOL. For TC and TCA, track or
management unit
cylinder can be specified as the difference management unit.
differential copy
A copy of a database consisting only of the differences in the database since the last full copy.
differential data
Rate of the difference between the contents of a P-VOL and those of an S-VOL. A P-VOL and an
rate
S-VOL form a copy pair
disaster recovery
This function disconnects the primary site copy pair from the secondary site copy pair and tests
testing
the secondary site to determine if the DR configuration is operating normally. When the test ends,
you must resynchronize the primary site with the secondary site.
