PROBLEMS
(SYMPTOMS)
The engine will not crank when
the start button is pushed.
The engine starts but shuts
down shortly after it starts.
If for any reason you do not understand the test procedures or are unable to perform the test/repairs safely, contact the
Lincoln Electric Service Department for electrical troubleshooting assistance before you proceed. Call 1-888-935-3877.
POSSIBLE AREAS OF
MISADJUSTMENT(S)
ENGINE PROBLEMS
1. Check circuit breaker (CB5).
Reset if tripped.
2. The battery may be low or
faulty. If the battery will not
accept a charge, replace it.
1. Make sure there is an
adequate fuel supply in the fuel
tank.
2. The fuel filters may be
clogged.
3. If the engine protection light
is illuminated, there may be a
low oil pressure or high oil
temperature condition.

RECOMMENDED
COURSE OF ACTION
1. Check the wiring and the
connections at the starter
motor, circuit breaker (CB5),
'RUN/STOP' switch and the
start button. See Wiring
Diagram.
2. Check the chassis ground
connections between the
engine block and the negative
battery terminal.
3. Place the 'RUN/STOP' switch
to the 'RUN' position. Press the
start button, while checking for
voltage between a good clean
chassis ground connection (-)
and lead 231 (+) at the starter
solenoid. Voltage should be
approximately 12 volts. See
Wiring Diagram.
4. If battery voltage is present,
the starter motor or solenoid
may be defective or the engine
may be unable to turn over due
to a mechanical failure.
1. The shutdown fuel solenoid
may be faulty. See Wiring
Diagram.
2. The engine shutdown relay
may be faulty. Perform the
Engine Shutdown Relay Test
Procedure. See Wiring
Diagram.
