3 APPLICATIONS AND USE
3.1 Permitted use
These submersible pumps are designed for a wide range of applications, such as
the supply of water to private homes, water systems and industries.
These pumps are necessary in case of lowering of the groundwater level, as well
as for pressure increase. Submerge the pump completely under the water level
both if it is installed horizontally and vertically. See paragraph 3.1 Positioning
Limits.
3.2 Pumped liquids
Pumped liquids must be clean, compatible with pump components and materials,
without solid particles or fibres.
Any sand content in the water must not exceed 100 g/m3. A higher concentration
of sand will reduce the life of the machine and increase the risk of blockage. Any
solids in suspension must not exceed 2 mm in maximum dimension.
Water intended for human consumption: only models with WRAS
certification, at a maximum temperature of 65°C.
3.3 Conditions of use
Flow rate and head: during normal operation, they must fall within the fields
indicated on the rating plate. Under these conditions, optimal machine operation
is achieved.
Maximum temperature of the aspirated liquid: 65°C.
The machine must not be used outside the limits described in the technical
specifications. It is necessary to respect the indications regarding the nature,
density, temperature, flow rate of the pumped liquid, rotation speed, pressure,
motor power as well as all the other instructions contained in this manual or the
documentation attached to the contract.
During operation of the machine, whether it is installed vertically or horizontally,
the minimum NPSH inlet pressure must always be guaranteed to avoid cavitation
phenomena with possible consequences of malfunction and pump breakage. The
minimum height level (Fig. 5) must also be respected to avoid vortices and air
suction with possible consequences of malfunctioning and pump breakage.
The capacity of the machine must be included within its working range indicated
in the catalogue. Working with a flow rate lower than 10% of the nominal value or
tending to close the delivery valve, due to overheating, can cause a malfunction
and breakdown of the machine. Working with flow rates higher than the optimal
range can cause cavitation and thrust reversal with consequent machine
malfunction and breakage. For special applications, contact the Manufacturer.
Under no circumstances must the machine run dry, otherwise it can be damaged
and break even in a very short time. Even in the first stages of installation and
checking the direction of rotation, the minimum level of water for lubricating the
internal components must always be guaranteed.
3.4 Non-permitted use
Do not use the machine for applications other than those described
above and in any case for all applications not authorized by the
Manufacturer. Improper use can cause even serious damage (including
death) to people, animals, objects and the environment.
Do not pump food liquids or human food products.
Do not pump any liquids that are more viscous and/or denser than water, unless
specifically authorised by the Manufacturer.
Do not run the machine without any liquid.
Do not exceed the maximum pressure indicated on the rating plate.
Do not exceed the power indicated on the motor plate.
3.5 Other uses
Contact the Manufacturer if:
The liquid to be pumped has a viscosity or density higher than that of the water (it
will be necessary to use a motor with a proportionally greater power)
The water to be pumped is chemically treated (softened, chlorinated, purified,
etc.).
Any situation other than those listed under permitted use occurs.

4 INSTALLATION – GENERAL
La macchina deve essere installato conformemente alle istruzioni di questo
manuale.
Before starting work on the machine, make sure that it has been
disconnected from the power supply network and that it cannot be
accidentally reconnected.
Always use the required PPE (refer to the relative section).
If required in relation to the conditions of use and the working environment, we
suggest installing adequate devices to immediately perform an emergency stop
of the machine.
4.1 Electrical connections
The connections must be made exclusively by trained, authorized
personnel and in accordance with the legal obligations, the standards in
force, the consolidated technical practices and the following prescriptions.
Supply voltage, current and cos φ are quoted on the motor plate that has to be
kept within the electrical panel. The motor must be earthed and connected to the
electric panel.
Follow the wiring diagram in the engine manual for connecting the power cables
to the mains.
Consult the engine manual for any further indications to observe during
installation.
Check the correspondence between the plate data and the rated voltage and
frequency values. Always connect the earthing cable to the machine and check the
effectiveness of the earthing circuit both before the first start-up and periodically.
The installer is responsible for making connections in accordance with the
regulations in force in the country of installation.
4.2 Variable frequency drive (VFD) applications
For variable frequency installations (power supply via "inverter"), make sure the
frequency inverter can supply the rated voltage and at least 10% more current
than the rated value shown on the motor rating plate. To install and connect the
device, please refer to the Manufacturer's instruction manual.
5 HYDRAULIC CONNECTIONS
Before starting any work on the electric pump or the motor, make sure
that the power supply is disconnected, and it cannot be accidentally
restored.
Before starting any work on the machine, make sure that the power
supply is cut off and that it cannot be switched on accidentally.
If the pump is already coupled to the delivery pipe and a chain pipe wrench is
used, the pump only needs to be tightened by grasping it by the delivery port.
The threaded pipes must be connected in such a way as to contain the unscrewing
action due to the starting/stopping of the pump.
The thread of the hose that screws into the pump must not be longer than the
thread of the pump.
If the pipe is connected to the machine via perforated flanges, the connection
must be as concentric as possible so as not to obstruct the passage of the liquid
inside the pipe. The bolts of the flanges must be fixed in such a way that they
cannot loosen. In order not to damage the power cables during installation, they
must be routed inside the special recesses present in the flanges.
The pump is equipped with an embedded check valve in the delivery opening.
However, it is recommended, especially if the pump directly feeds a distribution
network subject to pressure, to install another check valve on the delivery piping
at no more than 10 meters from the minimum well level. (If this latter is not
known, use the delivery opening as minimum level).
The connection pipes must be suitable for the pressure, temperature and nature
of the liquid pumped. Adequate sealing gaskets must be placed between the pipe
connections and the pump. The torques and forces that are exerted on the flange
connections must not exceed the values indicated in Fig. A9.
The connection pipes must also be sized so as to support the weight of the
liquid inside the pipe itself when completely full together with the weight of the
machine, including power cables, which remains freely suspended at its end.
