What to do next
Prepare the system for operation. For instructions, see "Preparing the 5104-22C, 9006-22C, or 9006-22P
system for operation after you remove and replace internal parts" on page 118.
After you replace the system backplane, you must set the system serial number and model number in the
system backplane by using the vital product data (VPD) update tool. To download the tool, complete the
following steps:
1. Go to the Scale-out LC system VPD update tool website (www-304.ibm.com/support/
customercare/sas/f/lopdiags/scaleOutLCdebugtool.html).
2. Download the Scale-out LC system VPD update tool.
3. Follow the directions that are provided with the tool to update the VPD.
You need to set the system's time after replacing the system backplane. You can set the time after the
system is running by logging into the web GUI.

Removing a system processor module from the 9006-22P system
To remove a system processor module from the system, complete the steps in this procedure.
Before you begin
Ensure that the PNOR firmware level is V2.12-20190404, or later. For instructions about updating system
firmware, see Getting fixes.
Power off the system and place it in the service position. For instructions, see "Preparing the 5104-22C,
9006-22C, or 9006-22P system to remove and replace internal parts" on page 115.
Unless you are replacing both processors, ensure that the replacement processor has the same part
number as the processor you are removing.
About this task
As part of the system processor module replacement, the heat sink is removed. When the heat sink is
removed from the system processor module, the thermal interface material (TIM) is typically adhered to
the heat sink. Unless damaged, the TIM that is adhered to the heat sink can be reused. If the TIM is
damaged, do not reuse the removed heat sink. Before you begin the processor removal and replacement
procedure, ensure that you have a spare TIM and heat sink on hand.
Procedure
1. Attach the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap.
The ESD wrist strap must be connected to an unpainted metal surface until the service procedure is
completed, and if applicable, until the service access cover is replaced.
Attention:
• Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap to the front ESD jack, to the rear ESD jack,
or to an unpainted metal surface of your hardware to prevent the electrostatic discharge
from damaging your hardware.
• When you use an ESD wrist strap, follow all electrical safety procedures. An ESD wrist strap
is used for static control. It does not increase or decrease your risk of receiving electric
shock when using or working on electrical equipment.
