Two-Stage Installation with CM1164A & CM1284
The KVM over IP Switches can be cascaded from a single CM1164A or
CM1284 for a locally centralized control up to 4 KVM over IP Switches
(KN2124VA / KN4124VA/KN2116VA / KN4116VA / KN1132V /
KN1132VB / KN2132VA / KN4132VA / KN8032VB / KN8132V /
KN2140VA / KN4140VA / KN4164V / KN8064VB / KN8164V / KN8116V)
in a complete two-stage installation.
In this cascaded installation, the CM1164A or CM1284 is considered the First
Stage unit, and the cascaded KVM over IP switchs are considered the Second
Stage units.
To set up a two-stage installation, refer to the diagram on page 44, and do the
following:
1. Make sure that power to all the devices you will be connecting, including
all preexisting devices on the installation, are properly grounded and have
been turned off.
2. Plug your DVI display into the Console DVI Single Link Port, and then
plug your USB keyboard and USB mouse into the USB Console Ports. All
the ports are located on the CM1164A or CM1284's rear panel.
3. Use a DVI to DVI cable, and a USB Type-B to USB Type-A cable to
connect to any available DVI port in the KVM Ports of CM1164A or
CM1284 (CPU 1, CPU 2, etc), and then connect the other end of the cable
to the Local Console Ports located on the rear panel of the second stage
KVM over IP Switches.
Note: 1. The distance between the First Stage unit and the Second Stage
unit must not exceed 40 m or 50 m based on the KVM adapter
cable used.
2. A DVI to HDMI adapter is required for the KVM over IP
Switches in a complete two-stage installation with the CM1284.
4. Use KVM cable sets (as described in the Cables section of the cascaded
KVM switch's User Manual), to connect any available KVM port on the
Second Stage unit to the Keyboard, Video, and Mouse ports of the servers
you are installing.
5. Plug the power cord that came with the CM1164A and CM1284 into its
Power Socket, and then into an AC power source.
