Battery replacement precautions
Do not disconnect the batteries while the UPS is in battery mode.
Batteries can be replaced by qualified service personnel with knowledge of batteries and the required precautions without
turning off the UPS or disconnecting the load. To remove input power to change the batteries, see Powering down the UPS.
Consider all warnings, cautions, and notes before replacing batteries.
•
Servicing must be performed by qualified service personnel with knowledge of batteries and required precautions. Keep
unauthorized personnel away from batteries.
•
Batteries can present a risk of electrical shock or burn from high short circuit current. Observe the following precautions:

Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects.
◦
Use tools with insulated handles.
◦
Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of batteries.
◦
Wear rubber gloves and boots.

When replacing batteries, replace them with the same type and number of batteries or battery packs. To order new
batteries, contact your service representative.

Proper disposal of batteries is required. Refer to your local codes for disposal requirements.
•
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. Batteries might explode when exposed to flame.
•
Do not open or mutilate the battery or batteries. Released electrolyte is harmful to the skin and eyes and may be toxic.
•
Electric energy hazard. Do not attempt to alter any battery wiring or connectors. Attempting to alter wiring can cause
injury.
•
Battery removal and/or replacement, by the end user, requires powering down the load and UPS. Consider scheduling
during a maintenance window.
Replacing the UPS
Procedure
1. Power down all attached load devices.
2. Power down the UPS.
3. Unplug the UPS power cord.
4. Disconnect all cabling.
5. Remove the screws securing the UPS to the rack.
6. Remove the UPS from the rack.
To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.
