2 Initial Configuration
This chapter covers the following information:
• Preparing for Configuration, below
• Setting the IP Address for RXT Drives on page 13
• Connecting the RXT350 to the Host on page 16

Preparing for Configuration

Before you configure the RXT350:
• Determine if you will use a static IP address or DHCP for the drives. For the static
method, have on hand the addresses to assign.
• Identify the SCSI ID, unique to the bus, to assign to the drives. Note that the drives
arrive with the default SCSI ID of 15.
• Have on hand the SCSI cables you'll use to connect the RXT350 to the host.
Note: The RXT drives require IBM's LTO driver to run in a Windows
environment. Be sure to download this driver from
www.spectralogic.com/rxt/download before installing the RXT350.
Also note:
Maximum block size with v5 drivers is 64KB
Maximum block size with v6 drivers is 256KB
Caution: Proper grounding is essential for correct operation of the
RXT350 with its associated host adapter cards. The RXT350 and
any equipment cabled to it must share the same earth-ground
voltage. Damage may result if these ground lines are not at the
same voltage.
