5.3 Starting the UPS in Battery Mode

Prerequisites
If no mains input is available, perform battery cold startup.
Procedure
Step 1 Ensure that batteries are properly connected. Use a multimeter to check that the sum of the
absolute voltages of positive and negative battery strings are greater than a certain value (2 x
Number of cells).
Step 2 Open the main and bypass input circuit breakers. When no main or bypass input is available,
close the BCB. If multiple battery strings are installed, close the circuit breaker for each
battery string and then close the main circuit breaker between battery strings and the UPS.
Step 3 Measure the UPS battery string voltages in the battery input route by using a multimeter. If
the sum of the absolute voltages of positive and negative battery strings are greater than a
certain value (2 x Number of cells), the batteries are connected properly.
Step 4 Press the BATT START button on the bypass unit, as shown in
initialization progress are displayed on the MDU.

a. Turn off the external mains and bypass input switches.
b. Open the input surge protection circuit breaker (if any) on the input PDC.
If you need only to shut down inverters to transfer the UPS to bypass mode, perform only
checking that the UPS has generated no alarm; if you need to shut down the UPS, perform all the
preceding steps.
