WARNING
Under certain circumstances, the system
may not operate or may not detect cor-
rectly an object in front or behind the
vehicle. When your vehicle is approaching
the object too closely, take all necessary
actions to avoid a collision, such as brak-
ing and steering, regardless of whether the
Ultrasonic
misacceleration
Mitigation
System is activated or not.
The Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation
System is not designed to detect a pedes-
trian or bicycle.
When propulsion power is immediately
required while the Ultrasonic misaccelera-
tion Mitigation System is activated, take
one of the following actions.
• Release the foot from the accelerator
pedal and lightly depress the pedal again.
• Press and hold the Forward collision mit-
igation system (FCM) and Ultrasonic
misacceleration
Mitigation
ON/OFF switch for three seconds or
more to turn off the Ultrasonic misaccel-
eration Mitigation System.
• Keep depressing the accelerator pedal
for 5 seconds or more.
• Fully depress and release the accelerator
pedal three times or more in quick suc-
cession.
Never attempt to test the Ultrasonic
misacceleration Mitigation System. Doing
so could result in an accident.
WARNING
While the Active Stability Control system
(ASC) is turned off by operating the ASC
OFF switch, the Ultrasonic misaccelera-
tion Mitigation System does not operate.
Refer to "ASC OFF switch" on page
5-101.
The Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation
System may not operate in certain situa-
tions. Some of these include:
• The sensors or surroundings have been
wiped by hand.
• The stickers or accessories have been
attached to the sensors or surroundings.
• When the ambient temperature is rap-
idly changing. For example, immediately
after the vehicle has exited from a tunnel
or a garage.
• Under adverse weather conditions (rain,
strong winds, snow, sand storms, etc.)
• When approaching an obstacle too
System
closely.
• When another vehicle is crossing just in
front of or behind your vehicle.
• When your vehicle is closely approaching
an obstacle while changing its path.
• When only a part of an obstacle is
detected.
• When rain, snow, water or dirt adheres
to the ultrasonic sensor or surrounding
area.
Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System (if so equipped)
WARNING
• When the sensor is extremely hot or cold
(after the vehicle has been parked for a
prolonged time under a blazing sun or in
cold weather).
• Immediately after the engine switch is
turned on.
• When driving on a curve.
• When driving on a road with steep and
alternating up and down slopes.
• When driving on a bumpy or rough road.
• When the system recognizes driver's
steering, accelerating, braking or gear
shifting actions as evasive actions to
avoid a collision.
• Immediately after the system has judged
that the accelerator pedal has repeatedly
been depressed and released within a few
seconds.
• When the vehicle body is extremely
inclined due to heavy loads on the vehicle
or improper adjustment of the tire pres-
sure.
• When the systems is affected by nearby
ultrasonic noise, such as honking from
other vehicles or sound from motorcycle
engines, brakes, radios, pouring rain,
splashing water or tire chains.
• When an obstacle does not stand verti-
cally on the ground, an object does not
face the vehicle with a right angle or the
surface of an object is uneven or wavy.
• When a vehicle ahead or behind is a
trailer.
