6.2. CLOSURE – LOWER RAIL
6.2.1. Locate a platform closure bracket ("bracket"). Clamp the bracket to the ramp handrail post
such that the short leg is centered on the lower Two-Line ramp handrail and aligned with
the post. Orient the bracket so the long leg is on the same side as and parallel to the
platform post (FIG. 6.10).
6.2.2. Measure the gap between the long leg of the bracket and the platform post (FIG. 6.11).
6.2.3. Trim the 1-1/2" diameter round tube to the measured gap length less 1/8" to account for
the threaded inserts which will be installed after trimming (FIG. 6.12).
6.2.4. Using a metal file, smooth all sharp edges from trimming the round tube.
6.2.5. Install 5/16"-18 round threaded inserts into both ends of the trimmed tube. Use a rubber
mallet or similar tool to fully seat the threaded inserts (FIG. 6.12).
6.2.6. Install 5/16"-18 x 1" hex bolts through 5/16" flat washers, the slot in the long leg of the
bracket, and the third hole from the top of the platform post, into the threaded inserts
installed in the previous step, then tighten all fasteners securely (FIG. 6.12).
6.2.7. Unclamp the bracket and drive a 5/16"-18 x 1-1/4" self-drilling, self-tapping hex washer head
screw, centered in the slot, through the bracket and into the ramp handrail post (FIG. 6.12).
Tighten securely but use caution not to overtighten and strip the threads.
