HBA cards contain sensitive electronic components easily damaged
CAUTION
by an electrostatic discharge (ESD). To prevent ESD damage while
installing your card, maintain frequent contact with any grounded
metal surface. Use of a grounding wrist strap is highly recommended.
Handle the card carefully at all times, preferably by the edges. Avoid
touching electronic components and keep the card in the original
packaging until ready for installation.
2
Access the HBA card's website and download its latest driver and firmware files.
3
Install the HBA drivers in the host and update the card's firmware according to the instructions provided
with the download.
4
Configure the HBA's FC port(s) for operation with the Scalar 100.
Typical configuration values for a basic Scalar 100 to host connection would be as follows:
link speed: auto detect
port type: initiator/target
connection type: loop preferred
loop ID: auto detect
frame size: 2048 bytes
operating system: autosense/NT
Configure your HBA settings to match these values. Refer to the documentation provided with your HBA
card for the specific configuration procedures. To configure FC and SCSI parameters for SANs having
different or more advanced requirements, refer to your ADIC Management Console User's Guide.
To verify operation of the HBA Fibre Channel
1
At this time, turn off the host and ensure that the Scalar 100 is turned on.
2
Route fiber-optic cable with duplex LC connector from the SNC 6101 to the FC port on the SAN switch.
If you are directly connecting the Scalar 100 to a host, route the cable directly to the host HBA.
3
Plug the FC cable into the FC 1 channel on the SNC 6101.
For advanced configurations such as using the channel zoning feature for load
Note
balancing, it is necessary to cable both SNC 6101 Fibre Channel ports to the
SAN.
4
When directly attaching the Scalar 100 to a host, plug the opposite end of the FC cable attached to the
SNC 6101 into the HBA on the host. For SAN fabric environments, route a FC cable from the host HBA
to the desired FC port on the SAN switch.
5
Turn on the host.
6
Open Device Manager (right-click My Computer>Manage>Device Manager).
7
Verify that the Device Manager now lists the Scalar 100 devices under "Other devices."
