4.6 LON Network Connection

The EIA 232 connectors on the front and rear panel are identical and connected in
parallel.
Note:
The EIA 232 connectors on the front and rear panel cannot both be used at the
same time. Before connecting a device to e.g. the front panel connector, make sure
that no device is connected to the rear panel connector.
The EIA 232 connector is a modular jack telephone plug. The pin assignment is
shown in Figure 18.

Note:
Only the signals RX, TX and GND are used for a direct connection. For a modem
connection, all signals are used. See the Technical Manual for the ECL 2000 Serial
Interface (ref. [5]) for further details.
As indicated in the specifications on page 115, the ECL 2000 complies with the
standard for emission EN50081-1. To ensure that emission from the controller lies
within the boundaries specified in the standard, observe the following:
The EIA 232 connection should be used only temporarily, e.g. for connecting a
PC while a service engineer is attending to the controller.
When a modem is connected permanently to the ECL 2000, the length of the
modem cable must not exceed 0.30 m.
Figure 11 on page 13, Figure 12 on page 14 and Figure 13 on page 15 show where
the LON network cable is connected to the ECL 2000.
For further information, please refer to the Technical Manual for the ECL 2000
LON Option (ref. [6]).
