Hydraulic System: Testing the Hydraulic System
Traction Circuit – Charge Pressure Test
The charge pressure test is the first in a series of tests recommended to
determine traction circuit performance. The test involves measuring the charge
pressure available and measuring the amount of drop in charge pressure when a
moderate load is placed on the piston (traction) pumps. Continuing to operate a
machine suffering from hydraulic traction system issues can generate excessive
heat, cause damage to seals and other components in the hydraulic system, and
affect overall machine performance.
