Priming the Hydraulic System

Hydraulic System: Service and Repairs
Whenever hydraulic fluid has been drained from the pumps or wheel
motors (system drain, flush, pump removal/installation, or wheel motor
removal/installation) it is important to properly prime the hydraulic system.
Priming the hydraulic system ensures that the gear pump, the piston (traction)
pumps, and the wheel motors have sufficient fluid while charging the hydraulic
system.
If the piston (traction) pump or wheel motor was rebuilt or replaced,
make sure the pump or motor housing is at least half full of clean
hydraulic fluid after installation.
1. Make sure all hydraulic connections are properly tightened.
2. Check the hydraulic fluid level in the hydraulic reservoir and add the correct
type and quantity of fluid if necessary; refer to the traction unit Operator's
Manual.
3. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
4. Set the key switch to the S
to prime the hydraulic pump. Wait for 30 seconds to allow the starter motor
and starter solenoid to cool. Repeat the cranking procedure for the second
time.
5. Connect the spark plug wires.
6. Charge the hydraulic system; refer to
5–55).
IMPORTANT
