Introduction Introduction Topics About acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) calibration, page 7 Vessel coordinate system and rotation angles, page 8 ADCP calibration summary, page 9 Support information, page 10 About acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) calibration The purpose of an ADCP calibration is to determine the exact installation parameters for the ADCP transducer with as high precision as possible, as well as the so called Scaling for the ADCP data.
EK80 User manual for ADCP calibration • x-position is given in the alongship direction • y-position is given in the athwarthship direction • z-position is given in the vertical direction The deviation angle and position are estimated during the calibration by comparing the GPS and MRU output with the uncompensated bottom track from the ADCP.
All the physical locations of the sensors are referenced to the reference point. ADCP calibration summary The EK80 system may be calibrated in real time or using replay files. The calibration process involves several steps and preparations. Prerequisites The following conditions must be considered: •...
Transducer Installation Support information If you need technical support for your EK80, you must contact your local dealer, or one of our support offices. A list of all our offices and dealers is available on our website. You can also contact our main support office in Norway.

Calibrating the ADCP system • Raw data for a circle calibration has been recorded in advance • A computer with EK80 installed Context Data collection has been done following a circular sailing pattern. The raw data has been stored in a file system and used for a new calibration.
If you are calibrating using the Processing Unit which was used for obtaining the raw data you can update your settings and the EK80 system is calibrated for ADCP. If you are using another computer to process the raw data, you move the xml-file (which are your results from the calibration) to the Processing Unit and perform a Reprocess calibration of the data.

ADCP data. All echo data are stored in RAW files. The information provided by the calibration is entered into the EK80 software as operational parameters. This is done automatically.
Adding a new transducer to a previously calibrated EK80 system requires a calibration of the new channel. Reconnecting an already calibrated transducer and transceiver pair, the old calibration data may be retrieved and used. A new calibration is not required.

EK80 User manual for ADCP calibration This page displays options and results for real-time circle calibration. On the left hand side the progress of the calibration process is displayed visually using diagrams and drawings . The progress of the calibration process is displayed through the sailing pattern and the development of the calibration values (roll, pitch, yaw and angle and scale) as more raw data is obtained and processed for each ping.

Functions and dialog boxes Calibration Sequence section enables you to start and stop recording raw data for the Calibration Sequence first and second set of calibration circles. The status indicators will display the results of the different parts of the process. Start Recording Select to start recording raw data from the pings for the first and .
Page 33
The status indicator displays if the completion of the recording data from the two sets of circles has been a success. A success in this matter indicates that enough accepted pings have been received by the EK80 system. • : Less than 450 pings are accepted, await more pings being accepted before proceeding.

EK80 User manual for ADCP calibration displays the calibration results on the scale, pitch, roll, yaw and offset Installation and Results values as they are estimated throughout the calibration process. The absolute value for all these parameters are displayed in three instances. The value used at the time of installation, the previous calibration and the result of the current calibration.
Once the processing is finished you can save the results, and update the calibration data used by the EK80 system. Prerequisites Replay of calibration data can only be done when you have a valid set of replay files at hand.

Functions and dialog boxes RMS Error indicates the success of a calibration process. The value itself is the RMS Error average measurement error within a defined interval. The measurement error is define as the difference between the velocities measured by the ADCP system transformed into earth coordinates and the global velocities provided by the GPS.
